The Royal Tour
Bonn, Germany is the city of Beethoven. It is here that the famed composer was born and lived until the age of 21. A statue in Bonn's main square honors him elegantly!
Ludwig von Beethoven was born in this home in December 1770. Now a museum, it houses a huge collection of the composer's memorabilia and original work.
Photography is not allowed inside, but highlights are original composition - complete with his famous crossing out of notes as he changed his mind - and his personal musical instruments with his seal engraved in. This courtyard connects the house with the Treasures Room and the Music Room.
In the Music Room, Beethoven's works play, while the original composition is projected on a large screen. The highlight circle shows where the music currently is. I could spend hours here.
Next door to the Beethoven House is this theatre, which holds concerts from Beethoven as well as other composers. It is small and elegant, and a highlight of Bonn.
While I was "only" able to see a concert of Bach's Goldberg Variations, I know Beethoven would be thrilled that this was happening just on the other side of the wall of his childhood bedroom. Be sure to click the link below to read all about the Beethoven House and his early life in Bonn, Germany.
