The Royal Tour
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic was founded by Christopher Columbus, and from here, his family spent generations as Spanish viceroys. This mausoleum holds some of his remains.
Inside the mausoleum on Santo Domingo’s east side is this elaborate tomb, which holds some of Christopher Columbus’ remains. The rest are in Seville.
Alcazar Colon, the Columbus Mansion, sits in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone. The house was built for Columbus’ son Diego And is today a museum.
Christopher Columbus is revered here in the Dominican Republic, though his legacy is more complicated (at best). This portrait hangs in the Royal Families Museum.
