Dresden's Frauenkirche

The Royal Tour

The tall dome of Frauenkirche dominates Dresden's skyline. Built from 1726-1743, it is a stunning piece of architecture.

It is strange to think that this iconic structure was only recently rebuilt.

Near the end of World War Two, most of Dresden was destroyed over a two day span. Frauenkirche was leveled. You can see the original blackened stones in part of the exterior.

The interior was rebuilt to look exactly as it was prior to destruction. It is graceful, full of pastels.

The center altar was also rebuilt to be as close as possible to the original. It is stunningly beautiful.
