Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The Royal Tour

Santo Domingo is the capitai and largest city of the Dominican Republic. Most travelers skip it in favor of a resort town, but Santo Domingo has a ton going for it.

Santo Domingo is the oldest European founded city in the Americas, and the Colonial Zone has some amazing historical buildings, like this fort dating to the time of Christopher Columbus.

Speaking of Columbus, you can visit his tomb (one of two in the world, oddly) on the eastern side of Santo Domingo.

Santo Domingo has some cool nature also, in the form of Tres Ojos National Park!

While Santo Domingo itself doesn’t have clean beaches, just outside the city you’ll find some lovely ones, making for easy day trips.

Your time in Santo Domingo will, of course, include plenty of rum-based drinks. Dominican rum is some of the best in the world!

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic is truly a lovely place. It can be overwhelming at times, but there is a lot to do and see, a ton to eat, and so much to experience. Give it a try! And make sure to click the link below to read our full guide to Santo Domingo!
