Shauna Kanel is a staff writer at The Royal Tour. Please scroll down for an index of all of her articles here.

Shauna has been an avid traveler and lover of other cultures since her first international excursion at the age of 12. She loves adventure, spontaneity, and adrenaline while exploring new places, and has been known to get wet whenever possible as a lifelong SCUBA diver and unofficial mermaid. 🧜🧜♀️

Shauna has prioritized periods of travel in her life, visiting more than 35 countries on 6 continents. While matriculating at UC San Diego, Shauna studied abroad on Semester at Sea, visiting 10 countries in 100 days while learning about each country’s culture, people, politics, religions, and history. She finds travel more fulfilling and enriching when integrating cultural immersion and learning, and to this day she prefers slow, immersive travel whenever possible. Travel isn’t just about the destination, it’s about the journey, the lessons learned and shared, and the people met along the way.

Shauna backpacked through South America for a year, speaking Spanish and Portuguese whenever possible. She has traveled in nearly every country in Central and South America. (Brazil is her favorite so far!) Shauna also lived in Australia for a year, immersing deeply into that culture. Shauna currently lives in Denver, Colorado, and spends her free time hiking, camping, skiing, and biking in the Rocky Mountains.
