Portland is an awesome city, but what makes it unique? Here are four recommendations from us of things to do with a few days in Portland that are completely unique.
1. Check out the view from the Pittock Mansion
Nowhere else in Portland can you get a view of the city quite like this. Pittock Mansion is at the top of Washington Park. The Mansion itself has a ticket charge and is nothing really special, but the grounds are free and the view is priceless!
2. Visit the Rose Garden to learn how Portland got its nickname
Portland isn’t called the Rose City for nothing, and the Rose Garden – properly known as the International Rose Test Garden – is much of the reason why. Parking in Washington Park can be tough, so arrive early.
3. Drive through the breathtaking Columbia Gorge.
You can read our guide to the Gorge here. The moral of the story: beautiful scenery, breathtaking waterfalls, wonderful hiking. Do. Not. Miss. This.
4. Wait in a long line for Voodoo Doughnuts
As you know, I don’t mind long lines for amazing food. Voodoo Doughnuts – the original – will have at least a 20-30 minute line. But it is worthwhile a) to say you visited and b) to eat some truly unique donuts. Just look into the spinning display.
No matter what you do, Portland is an incredible destination, but these are our favorite unique things to do there.
